GOOD FRIDAY

GOOD    FRIDAY

Is it or was it really good
The day they nailed Him to the wood
Crowned his head with a ring of thorns
Cheered the deed and sang songs

No resistance or plea for aid
By this man of peace was made
He suffered died for our sake
Showed us all the path to take

Knowing this was done with Love
To bring us to the Lord above
I’d say that Friday was more than good
The day He gave his life upon the wood

Poems of LENT ENVY & GREED

 Poems of LENT
ENVY

Need?   Want?  Desire?   Craving?

Are these  stages of Greed?
Since day one we all have a natural need
For the basics of life which must be met
Then come things we would want to get

Normal reaction to the goodness of life
Posessions Positions to gain without strife
To be inspired by another’s success
Can be a plan for those with much less

Desire and craving are not just a dream
They can be part of life’s scheme
The path  is there for all to travel
Setbacks puzzles to unravel

The key to life’s quest
Is work. WORK and do your best
Envy is jealousy at its worst
Your hopes and dreams it will burst

Next step down is Greed
From which you can’t be Freed

Greed
Somewhere it is writ and I believe I did read.
That this world wouldn't function if it wasn't for greed.

All men of peace; And this is a fact,
Have been feared by the mighty and put to the rack.
Whether to be stoned by a mob or nailed to a tree.
The mighty allow this. How can this be?

When a man of peace is considered a threat.
The final solution is to put him to death.
Then; deny that it happened and try to forget.

It may be they fear, for men to be freed.
For this would limit their unsatisfied greed

FREE BERNIE

Did or does Bernie own the Mets?? or ?? Do the Mets Own Bernie??
Baseball aint what it use to be or is it?? Say What MET FANs??
Free Bernie
Bernie Madoff:  made off with the farm
Feels he hasn’t done anyone harm
He wants his family to keep and enjoy
The fruits of their dishonest ploy
The entire crime has yet to be seen
Many Holier Then Thous
will be found in the scheme
Should we ask the kids to give of their cents
To help these devils void of conscience
Bernie may have to live in a cell
Where people in boxes would love to dwell
But sooner then later he’ll suffer in hell
Lucifer Beware
Bad folks are coming your way
If we free Bernie who will be next
??? O J ???

SANDY TRIBAL TALE

My mind often stirs to along ago day
When I see the land of the Rockaway
A tribe blessed to live by the Sea
Proud Brave and peacefully Free

At the oceans edge is where it appeared
By man never before seen or feared
My eyes got a sharp clear view
My mind would not deem it true
I stood frozen still as death
Forced myself to take a breath
Then without the slightest sound
It was gone  could not be found

Yes it was an unreal sight
It turned my hair pure white
Now I feel a shiver in my heart
From this beach I can not part
I feel here I must remain
If I am to see it again
The Great Spirit once more
Calls me to visit the shore

FAT TUESDAY

Already? Time for another? Seems like it was just last year and this is a LeapYear!

CARNIVAL?? MARDI GRAS ??
OR
Fat Tuesday
Get all your sinning done
Not really sin call it fun
Leave your morals at home and have a ball
No one cares  No not at all
The evil CEOs of late
Lounge about and await their fate
No one seems to have a worry
To a man they are not sorry
The president speaks and asks for a bill
That would keep them there in the till
The money to be used is yours and mine
And I do not wish to contribute a dime
These men just didn’t wake up one day
and think. There must be an easier way
Not petty crime  No that’s beneath them
Life savings and fortunes tempt em
Fat Tuesday sees a lot of sinning
Ash Wednesday sees some repenting
Thank God there is forgiveness
No matter how evil your business

My Valentine

Of all the angels I've known in my life
The one I love best is the one I call wife
Prettier than a thousand words
More melodic than a choir of birds

Has stood beside me and cheered me on
In high and low times we happened upon
I struggle for words to express my deep love
For this lady of grace sent from above

I'll love her forever beyond time itself
and thank her for the happiness I've felt
She is my Valentine
She is my Sunshine

More than that she is my Life
I thank God she is my Wife
I am Ed  Broderick and I approve this message

Wearing of the GREEN

Days away.

With the winds mixing from oer the ocean and the bay

I begin to hear the swirl of the pipes and the thump of the drum

and I know the time for another parade has come

Be here in ROCKAWAY
For Another Great
ONE
You are Invited to Enjoy
ROCKAWAY'S Parade
SATURDAY
3 March 2012

Blessed Spring

T'was as always, a grand parade!
You feel a bit sad as the pipes fade
Pack up the lads as the day turns to shade.
There'll be stories galore from each one of them.
Bout; which crowd was biggest
Or who played the loudest.
But the smiles I'll witness in the days to come,
Will be caused by one sure thing.
That after St. Patrick's Day
God will bless us with a lovely Spring.

Arizona Angel

Its been one year since Evil struck in Arizona.  (8 Jan 2011)
Arizona Angel

How long does it take to meet your fate
Early for some while for others late
Nine years ago when the towers fell
Caused by airborne devils from hell
Innocent lives were stolen away
For whom we will always pray
While such evil deeds that day took place
A family was blessed with a child of grace
Loved and cherished by all she knew
At nine years her life is through
Never to skip giggle have fun
Taken by a mad man’s gun
Came to us September eleven
Now this day an angel in heaven

R.I.P. Brian Broderick

Captain

Clear days with no ocean haze
I sit and at the horizon gaze
Far beyond the growing surf
Almost to our forefather’s turf
Tis then I see  as in a dream
All perfect pure and clean
Memories of long ago years
Full of joy and minus  fears

Of home where I rested my head
Said grace and broke bread
We were a group like no other
The Captain being the kid brother
Dubbed this rank by our dad
Always happy seldom sad
He was Captain to pals and kin
Charmed all with his boyish grin

Taken early to his final reward
Surely promoted by our Lord
To a rank I salute with deep pride
My love my tears I dare not hide
Once again I peer over the blue
To a time so pure and true
When we had the kid brother
A Captain like no other.

Gift
 of Gifts
On a winter's night
With   snow   so  deep
A family lays in anxious sleep
For the day that is about to dawn
Is the day that saw a Savior born
Beneath their tree the gifts are few
But what is there will surely do
For in that house is an abiding love
Between each within and for God above
A love not shaken by the lack of wealth
But blessed many times by the gift of health
A bond not weakened by time nor it's test
For they know that by God they've been blessed
Through the windows pour the first rays of day
Its to church they travel to sing and to pray
Tis then they are witness to God and His love
Because for all there is a gift from above
A gift of a babe  His only Son
He is there!   He is there!
He is there in a manger
He has given us each other
and keeps us from danger
To our house this year may
 He not be a stranger

BIG BUCK Little Doe

 Two outs game almost over
Get the win you get the clover
Grown men play sports and reap fame
Lads dream to be tops in the game
Only a few excel to such heights
Most must settle for dream filled nights
While the pros sock it away
Wannabees long for their day

A huge group of others
Sisters and brothers
Toss and turn in their sleep
Go to bed with little to eat
These are the poor who have no dough
What to feed the family they do not know
Some are without sandal or robe
While relief is sent all over the globe

In nature the Buck takes care of the doe
Together watch the fawns age and grow
Wild life many times can be cruel
The strong over the weak rule
Men and women are above the beast
The rich share with those with the least
Every child should be able to sleep
Going to bed after enough to eat
Able to dream dreams of a king
Or of an eagle on the wing
Spying a Big Buck with a Little Doe

Guardians of the Sea and Riders of the Waves

RAA announces an exhibit: Guardians of the Sea and Riders of the Waves.
sTudio 7 @ Fort Tilden  Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28
to bring to life Rockaway beach scenes that portray a moment in time on our peninsula, whether from the past or present. They are seeking vibrant images of Lifeguards, Surfers and all images that contribute to celebrating the beach life on the peninsula of Rockaway, Queens, NY. Three poems I have penned say a bit about my feelings and thoughts I have for our stretch of sand and ocean.

Surfs Up!
Jump on the train marked “A”
Ride it to Rockaway
When you get here you can tell
That is the Ocean you smell
Just a short walk and you’re  at the edge
Your heart pounds like the beat of a sledge
Your step quickens and your wind gets short
Scope the scene till you spy the sport
All the lads are at Bell”s beach
Just a short distance to reach
Now you’re here and you can’t wait
Man these waves are looking great
Wax your board
Check your cord
Enter the water and head on out
Till you see the wave that’ll make you shout
Surfs Up and I am too
Going to hang this wave till it’s through
Then again and again all the day
I’ll fly the wind in Rockaway

Beach Day
Blue skys up above.
Blue eyes full of love.
Skys of blue free of clouds
to the beach bring the crowds.
Days of warmth with breezes soft,
lure the gulls to soar aloft.
Freckled faces, rosy red
play in the sand till its time for bed.
Ocean waves rise and fall.
Surfers ride and have a ball.
A man or two with poles of glass,
stare at the ocean till the day does pass.
If one is lucky and lands a fish,
I'm sure he'll sigh and make a wish
For another great day!
in "ROCKAWAY" with
Blue skys up above
and freckled faces full of love.

Monster Wave

Tis the season of gales and canes
Fierce winds and tropical rains
A time when most keep a wary eye
Upon the changes in the sky
While others gather at the ocean’s edge
Watch together and vow a pledge
To be afloat and ready to fly
When the monster wave they finally spy
I caught such a wave a while ago
Thought to the bay we would go
It was big the biggest I’ve seen
For real or in a dream
I never made the bay
But I had a perfect day
So to the ocean’s edge I will return
To peer deeply as the surf does churn
It is there out upon the horizon
Another monster wave is arising

US YANKS

Another 4th of July arrives and we all are reminded of how blessed we are to be part of this great nation. 235 years of freedom and still greeting eager aliens to our shores.
US YANKS

Bands playing flags flying heads held high
We all are proud as the parade passes bye
A young father holds his child’s hand
Salutes the flag and cheers the band
The smiles on all the folk’s faces
Attest to our nation’s many graces
There standing tall is a man of years
Gleaming with eyes full of tears
He knows the price some have paid
For those here to enjoy this parade
Also aware there will always be
Brave Yanks that will keep us free
To our Lord and God give thanks
He  has been  Is  and will be with
US YANKS

LOSS

Today I was with a friend who received the sad news of the loss of a close relative. Thou it was not unexpected it was a shock and very very sad. Words do not come easy at times such as this and just your precence is comforting to the person who has suffered a loss. Later this afternoon I sat and penned this poem hoping to extend some bit of comfort to my friend.
LOSS
Such a small word means so much
Can change your world with just a touch
Everyone feels its pain in their own way
Many fall to their knees and pray
Some with sobs and wails of grief
Others with silence and memories deep
The youngest child to the eldest kin
Together their healing can begin
Now is the time for a big family hug
Petty old hurts sweep under the rug
Life is too short to carry a grudge
No one here qualifies to be a judge
Recall the good times from the past
There are many and will always last
Loss is a small word means so much
LOVE also small means so much

RAA Writers Group and Musicians @ Peninsula Hospital Rehab Center

Sunday 26 June 2011 We presented a show of poetry, short stories, music and song to a group of 30 to 40 patients and their guests. I was priviledged to read two poems "Voices" and "True Thanks" The audiance and staff were very receptive to the entire show. I came away with a deeper understanding of audiance reaction and appreciation to a presentation. All were entertained and extended an invite for a return appearance. My Poems:

VOICES
The urge arrives and there is no choice
You must obey this inner voice
The first is to leave the womb
The final to enter the tomb
What comes between is your call
To yourself be true stand tall

Life is not a constant pleasure
But is always a God given treasure
There will be moments of doubt
Problems puzzles to figure out
You must realize you are not alone
Your fate already carved in stone

The urge you feel and can’t deny
Is His guidance from on high
Live life overcome its trials
Love life enjoy its smiles

TRUE THANKS
It comes from deep within
Not always at the end
Sometimes when we begin
Expressed in many a way
Not necessary for us to say

A big thumbs up A raised cup
A shy smile a broad grin
A simple nod or slap of skin
A wagging tail Will never fail

Your plight will never be so low
That true thanks you can notshow
Face each day as a precious gift
Your neighbor’s spirits try to lift
Do not let a day go bye
Without giving thanks on high

My sincere thanks to all who participated and viewed this show. Ed Broderick

My Guys

With the glow of Father'sDay still in my heart I went back and checked a few oldies. I have truly been blessed

1st Little Girl

My 1st little girl had a party today
To celebrate her birthday
Although its been many a year
I still remember it crystal clear
Such a beautiful gift I couldn’t believe
I’d ever deserve or live to receive
But there she was in the arms of my wife
A source of pride for the rest of my life
You are grown now with girls of your own
I hope the past years to you have shown
That my love and pride for you has grown
Forever and always you will be
My 1st little girl

Down the block to School(1975)Church(2000)

Patricia went to school the other day
I kissed her and sent her on her way

In distance it isn't very far
By foot a few minutes, a few seconds by car

But that day she started a journey that will go on and on

Each lesson each day
Carries her further away

A baby no more Patricia has started
A baby no more Patricia has parted

Tears to my eye my heart heaves a sigh
My child is growing
I bid her goodbye

(2000)Across the street to Church

The journey continues with another short trip
not even a stroll more like a skip

To the alter I'll take her to give her away
To be happy forever dear GOD I do pray

As today she is
Mrs Michael Tolve

TOGETHER
All the flowers that were
Or will be
Together
Do not equal the beauty
Of thee

Father's Day

Wrote one yesterday received two today.  Enjoying the day at home with the kids droping in to wish me well. I am blessed to have such a loving family. First I wrote "DAD" Then my Kathaleen presented me with her "My Hero My Dad".The Tolves arrived and my Jessica handed me her Father's Day Card. What a day! I am pleased beyond words and the day is still young
Dad

Every day of my life my father was there
Reading the paper in his favorite chair
Never seen in the morning during the week
Gone to his job a living to seek

In the evening upon his return
All the kids heads to the front door would turn
To see him embrace and hug our mom
Gave us all a glimpse of his Gaelic charm

A gentle man to all that he knew
To his family and faith was unwaverly true
Too many times I have failed as a son
To show my gratitude he had lovingly won

No longer here to hear me say
To heaven I turn and softly pray
Dad I love you and I hope to be
As good a father as you were to me
Eddie

My Hero, My Dad

Of all the fathers on this place we call earth
I was blessed to be able to call you daddy at birth

You have always been my hero, a pillar of strength to us all
When I think back on the past, countless memories I recall

Like when I was young and on the beach we would walk
To Fitzgerald’s for a hot dog and a heart to heart talk

Telling me stories of your childhood and growing up in the Heights
Kissing booboos and calming my fears on cold stormy nights

Then later on as an adult when I needed guidance in life
I knew I could count on you in good times or strife

Every memory I have of you brings a smile to my face
When it comes to being a great dad, hands down you win the race

So thanks daddy for the woman you have helped me become
I am so grateful you’re my dad, without a doubt you’re number one

Happy Father’s Day!!!

Kathleen
Dear Poppop

Happy Father’s Day

Today is a special day
It is a day to say

Happy  Father’s  Day
The month it’s in is not May

But the month it’s in is June
A day for father appreciation to bloom

Love  Jess
